The Russian Orthodox Parish to the Honor of The Nativity of the Mother of God in Chemnitz, Germany
The Orthodox congregation in Chemnitz was founded in February 2000, with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Feofan of Berlin (of the Russian Orthodox diocese). The orthodox congregation was founded in September 2000, though Orthodox church services are held in the Rropsteikirche in Chemnitz. Rev. Alexei Tomiouk, dean of the of St. Alexij memorial church in Leipzig, was appointed head of the new parish.Some 70 people, a large group of laity and the priest, have been holding divine services of the Orthodox Church in the Propstei-Kirche in the city of Chemnitz since February 2000. The church (Propstei-Kirche) is situated in the center of the city. Liturgies (main services) are conducted in it on the last Saturday of the month at 9.30am and on the main Orthodox holy days. The Rev. A. Tomiouk also conducts other services and runs a Religionsunterricht - Gruppe.
